Cancer support groups across Staffordshire and Cheshire say they're worried people aren't getting timely or quality cancer care due to lack of investment.

"I know people who are waiting way way too long." said Jax Armstrong, from Stoke-based support group Pink Sisters and Misters.

"For ladies and gents waiting for a diagnosis - we call it scanxiety.

"I definitely feel that there's more staff required to relieve the pressure of the current lack of staff.

"More investment is definitely needed. More consultants. There is not enough investment in cancer treatment."

It's as the NHS considers rolling out new cancer waiting targets in October.

One includes swapping the 2 week timeline to see a specialist with a "diagnosis or all clear" within 28 days target.

"Breast cancer alone is massive and that two week referral is so important." said Jax.

Oncologist Karol Sikora said: "I've been pushing for a COVID vaccine style logistics exercise. Working at weekends. Working at evenings. That's what we've got to get to with cancer. It's the only way to solve the backlog."
