Stoke-on-Trent man jailed after police confiscate knife
Christopher Edge was sentenced at North Staffordshire Justice Centre
A man has been jailed for six months after being found with a knife in Stoke-on-Trent and breaching a criminal behaviour order.
Christopher Edge, 42, of Hanley, received his sentence at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on 1st December after admitting possession of a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place, alongside breaching his order.
Officers encountered Edge on Saturday, 29th November, asleep in the doorway of a Tesco store in Hanley.
Upon approaching him to check on his welfare, police identified him as Edge, who was prohibited from entering Tesco grounds under a criminal behaviour order.
Police arrested Edge for the breach and discovered a knife in his bag during the search.
PC Natasha Egar, of the city problem-solving and intervention team, commented: “We’re continuing to strengthen the way we investigate and manage knife crime through improved supervision, better evidence quality and close partnership working.”
She added: “Over the past year we’ve seen a nine per cent reduction in knife-related offences across Staffordshire, with nearly 4,000 knives voluntarily surrendered through our amnesty bins.
“Having officers patrolling hotspot locations helps the public report their concerns around this and other issues more easily and helps us to take action.”
