Stoke-on-Trent man arrested after teenager stabbed to death
Yordanos Brhane, 19, was found with multiple stab wounds at her home on Saturday morning
Police have arrested a man over the murder of a teenager killed in Birmingham on Saturday after they tracked down a suspect in Stoke-on-Trent last night (1 Aug).
Officers arrested the man at around 9pm after extensive CCTV and other enquiries led us across the border into Staffordshire.
The 25-year-old will be transferred to the West Midlands today for questioning.
He is understood to be known to the victim – now confirmed as Yordanos Brhane from Eritrea – who was found with multiple stab wounds at her home in Unett Street, Newtown, at around 7am on Saturday morning (31 July).
Nothing could be done to save the 19-year-old and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detective Inspector Jim Mahon from the Homicide Unit is leading the investigation.
He said: “We believe the suspect was known to Yordanos but the exact nature of the relationship is unclear at this stage.
“Over the weekend we appealed for family members or people who knew Yordanos to come forward and I am pleased to say we have now heard from several people.
“This arrest is a significant step forward in our investigation but I would still like to hear from anyone who knew Yordanos, or has any information that could assist, to come forward.”
