Stoke City are looking for a new manager, after sacking Alex Neil.

It's after Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday. The Potters have won just six of their last 20 league games.

In a statement, Chairman John Coates said: “Alex is a man of absolute integrity who has given his all for Stoke City, and we would like to thank him for his hard work during his time with the Club.

“We are grateful for the building blocks he has helped put in place in bringing together a group of players in whom we have a huge amount of faith regarding their ability to turn things around this season, and who can help us achieve longer-term success.

“However, with the way the results have been so far, we have made the difficult decision to seek a new direction for the team at this time."

Neil joined Stoke in August 2022, and let them to 16th in the Championship last season. But they have struggled in their current campaign, and currently sit in 20th place - just two points from the relegation zone.

Assistant Manager Martin Canning has also left the club.

As a search for Neil's replacement gets underway, Paul Gallagher has been promoted to Caretaker Manager.

He will take charge ahead of Tuesday's game against Swansea city.
