A Staffordshire charity has hailed the "truly astounding" community response to an appeal for supplies for refugee families arriving in the UK from Afghanistan.

Local charity Imani's Incredible Eats partnered with community project hearts & Hands to use their premises as a drop-off point for donations.

They opened their doors today and yesterday (27th & 26th August), for donations of teddy bears, pens, pencils, colouring books and school uniforms.

_Hearts & Hands c_o-ordinator Lorraine said: "The generosity of local people is truly astounding. Within 24 hours our rooms were filling up with items so much that local storage business Sure Store offered to jump in and help too.

"We have all seen on TV the shocking situation, once it was announced, the military withdrawal from Afghanistan. They will be arriving here with the clothes on their backs and nothing more."

Clean pre-loved or new clothes, toiletries, personal care products, tins of food and dry food are all being accepted at Hearts & Hands for the next couple of weeks.

A crowd-funder has also been set up to help provide for families settling in Staffordshire.
