A 60-year-old man has been found guilty of raping and sexual assaulting a child for more than a decade.

Paul Clutton, of London Road, Stoke, was today (14 September 2021) convicted at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court of three counts of raping a female under the age of 16 and a further 11 counts of indecent assault against the same victim.

His crimes occurred between the early 1990s and late 2001.

Detective Constable Ann Blairs of Staffordshire Police said: “Clutton’s attacks against his victim were carried out over a prolonged period and severely impacted her childhood and future prospects.

“I want to pay tribute to her for the tremendous bravery it took for her to come forward and her courage in sharing her story with us.

“We hope Clutton’s conviction acts as a reminder that we will continue to do whatever it takes to bring the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to justice – no matter how long ago these attacks took place.”

Anyone who has suffered sexual abuse, or suspects others may be subject to sexual abuse, is urged to contact Staffordshire Police on 101.
