Staffordshire residents urged to take precautions as restrictions ease
The warning comes after nightclubs fully reopened for the first time in 16 months
With cases continuing to rise in all parts of the county, Staffordshire’s health chief has called on residents and businesses to continue taking sensible precautions to limit the spread of Covid-19.
Staffordshire County Council’s Director for Health and Care says taking personal responsibility remains crucial after legal restrictions officially ended on 19 July.
Dr Richard Harling stressed that everyone has a part to play in controlling Covid and avoiding unnecessary hospitalisations and deaths.
Richard said: “The ending of legal restrictions does not mean that Covid has gone away. It is still here and is still spreading, so it’s important that everyone continues to do their bit to prevent the spread of infection.
“Maintain a degree of social distancing. Respect each other’s space, avoid crowded places and, if you are meeting friends and family, meet outside rather than indoors. Face coverings are important on public transport and in crowded places, and it is worth carrying a face covering with you as some businesses may require you to wear one.
“Get tested regularly, ideally twice a week. Lateral flow device tests are easy to get hold of and quick to do. And get vaccinated as soon as you can.
“We all have a part to play in controlling Covid, avoiding unnecessary hospitalisations and deaths, and avoiding a return to more stringent restrictions.”
