The annual Staffordshire County Show features livestock on display from around the country. Over 65,000 people are expected to visit with more than 2,500 animals taking part during Wednesday and Thursday (May 31 and June 1), including cattle, sheep, pigs and horses.

Trading Standards Animal Health team members are also responsible for overseeing rules relating to animal health and welfare at more than 3,500 farms across the county. This includes enforcing the rules for bovine tuberculosis and disease outbreaks such as bird flu as well as animal welfare rules on farm or in transport.

Victoria Wilson, Cabinet Member responsible for Trading Standards at Staffordshire County Council says:

“Our animal health team have an important role to play helping ensure that the rules for animal health and welfare are followed. It’s a busy job as the role involves protecting public health as well as animal health and welfare.

“The county show is always a popular event, with numerous livestock exhibitors and visitors from farming communities. It gives the team a great opportunity to meet people and to talk with livestock keepers themselves."
