The mum of a six-year-old girl who was killed by a speeding drink and drug driver in Stoke-on-Trent says she's proud her daughter's legacy will live on - after the government hinted at backing her campaign.

Sharlottle Sky Naglis was killed when walking with her dad in Norton back in 2021.

Her family had to wait almost three months for answers because a sample couldn't be taken of the drivers blood until he was out of a coma and could give consent.

It's now been confirmed Sharlotte's Law - calling to remove consent - is being looked at by ministers.

"We are currently considering some possible changes to motoring offences to cover situations like this, and I will ensure that any such changes are brought to this House for an announcement first." said Commons Leader Lucy Powell.

Sharlotte's mother Claire Reynolds is calling for section 7A of the Road Traffic Act 1988 to be amended so that blood can be tested without consent, when deaths occur.

In the collision that killed Sharlotte, Owen was two times over the drink-drive limit, had Class A drugs in his system and was also using his phone. He received a sentence of six years and four months, serving two-and-a-half years in prison.

Sharlotte's mum Claire told us that the fact it's gaining traction in government makes her smile. "That is something that doesn't happen often anymore" she said.

"I'm proud that Sharlotte's legacy could change so many lives, and help investigations going forward - and also help families find the truth in what happened in losing a loved one.

"It doesn't get any easier. But this gives me the strength in knowing I'm doing this for Sharlotte - and the changes it could have on other peoples lives.

"There's a lot going on behind the scenes, with David William MP and his team. It's just waiting now for meetings to be set up with the ministers to push this law forward."
