Families have been waking up to snowy scenes across some parts of the region today (Friday 10 March).

Heavy snow and ice are affecting the morning commute across the UK.

Hill contractors and snow ploughs in Staffordshire were out yesterday helping to clear the way for today.

Meanwhile, Staffordshire County Council tell us gritters have been deployed since 4am this morning.

However, the Met Office says it will start to get warmer later today.

For now, Staffordshire Police are warning us to avoid certain roads, including the A53 between Leek and Buxton, and the A523 between Leek and Macclesfield.

Routes into the Moorlands have been particularly hazardous with emergency services and the army assisting people stuck. It's also revealed eight people in five vehicles were tapped for over 12 hours in the sub zero conditions.
