Port Vale Football Club have paid a touching tribute to our friend and colleague George Andrews on what is their first home game since his passing last Friday.

The club posted on their social media pages a photograph of a vase of flowers and a framed photograph of George placed in what has been his regular seat in the press box.

Often known as Georgie Boy he was a well-known voice to many in Staffordshire having commentated on football matches through the 80s and 90s and was still working for Signal 1 and Greatest Hits Radio attending games and press conferences.

George joined Signal 1 when it launched back in 1983, and also working with other local radio stations, including BBC Radio Stoke during his career, which lasted over 40 years, and saw him cover over 5000 games.

He passed away in hospital following a short illness.
