Port Vale are looking into a racist message sent by a fan to Leyton Orient's goalkeeper after the match on Saturday 2 October.

Port Vale beat Leyton Orient 3-2 in the League 2 fixture, but the result was overshadowed by the abuse sent to the opposition player.

A statement from the club said that they were aware of the issue, and that Port Vale would not tolerate any abuse directed at officials, players, staff or supporters.

Racist messages directed at Leyton Orient goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux were brought to the club's attention after the player posted the abuse on social media.

Vigouroux said: "Football is such a beautiful game ruined by people like this."

Leyton Orient also addressed the issue on social media and expressed their support for Vigouroux: "No one should face racist abuse in any circumstances, we’re all with you Loz. The club will be formally reporting this and hope its dealt with fully."
