Police officer attacked as she tried to help man in Stoke-on-Trent

The officer was left with a 'potentially fractured hand'

A man has been questioned by Staffordshire Police after one of their officers was assaulted in Stoke-on-Trent.

Just after 11:30pm on Friday 5 July, officers drove past a man who was stumbling on City Road, Fenton.

When they stopped to help the man, an officer was dragged to the ground.

She has since been to hospital and has a potentially fractured hand, the force confirmed.

A 41-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of assault by beating of an emergency worker and common assault of an emergency worker.

He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Anyone with any information that may help with the investigation is being asked to get in touch with Staffordshire Police - particularly those with CCTV, dashcam and doorbell footage of the area at the time.
