Police investigating circumstances leading to man's death in Stafford

It follows a firearm being discharged on Friday evening

Staffordshire Police are investigating the circumstances leading to a man's death in Stafford.

Emergency services responded to reports of concern for welfare at Espleys Yard at around 6:20pm on Friday.

A man in his 50s then discharged a firearm, leading to him being seriously injured.

He died a short while later, and his next of kin have been informed.

Staffordshire Police say they are not treating the man's death as suspicious, and are not looking for anyone else as part of their investigation.

The force also do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the public, although are conducting extra patrols in the area.

Staffordshire Police have also referred the incident to the watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, due to previous police contact.

Anyone with information that may help the investigation is being asked to call 101 quoting incident number 534 of 31 May.
