Tonight's win at Sandwell Aquatics Centre ends a rollercoaster week for the Uttoxeter athlete.

The three time Olympic champion claimed the only major gold medal missing from his collection, after touching the wall first in 26.76 seconds.

It's the comeback he was hoping for after finishing fourth in Sunday's 100m breaststroke final, the first time he'd been beaten in the event for eight years.

The defeat came 10 weeks after he suffered a broken foot in a training accident.

Following Sunday's final, Peaty announced on Twitter that the 50m final would be his last race at the Commonwealth Games, this being the third Games he's competed at.
