Nemesis to close for refurb
The iconic Alton Towers ride will close today for 18 months.
Today (Nov 6) marks the last day you can ride the Nemesis rollercoaster at Alton Towers, at least for the next 18 months, as it undergoes refurbishment.
Nemesis was Europe's first inverted rollercoaster when it was created by John Wardley in 1994. It is now under the control of The Phalanx, a secret organisation tasked with keeping the beast under control.
At 10pm this evening, winners of a recent competition will be the last riders, and they'll also be joined by the Nemesis creator, who also had the honour of riding the rollercoaster for the first time when he designed it in 1994.
Kate McBirnie from Alton Towers Resort, said: “We know that a place on Nemesis’ last ride is much coveted. It’s a moment in history for the famous ride and we can’t think of a better way to honour this occasion than giving fans the opportunity to be part of this special event.”
Nemesis will return in 2024 following its exciting transformation. Details of the transformation are being kept under wraps but more information to be revealed nearer the time.
