Nantwich man charged after police called out to reports of incident

A man has been charged with three counts of assault by beating, and another of sexual assault, following an incident in Nantwich.

Officers say they were called out to an address in the town late on Wednesday night (December 13).

52-year-old Paul Whitehurst from Barony Road has been released on conditional bail until his appearance at Chester Crown Court following the incident, which police say happened at about 11.30pm.

In a statement, Cheshire Police said: "Officers from Cheshire Police have charged a man with multiple offences following reports of an incident in Nantwich.

"Officers attended the scene, and arrested a man who was known to the victim on suspicion of assault.

"Following questioning, Paul Whitehurst has since been charged with three counts of assault by beating and one count of sexual assault.

"The 52-year-old of Barony Road, Nantwich, appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court on Saturday 16 December, where he was released on conditional bail.

"He is next set to appear at Chester Crown Court at a later date."
