There's been a major emergency services response to an incident involving chemicals in Staffordshire.

A man was found covered in an unknown substance at a property in Abbotts Road in Leek at around 7am yesterday morning.

He was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Experts then discovered chemicals inside a home, so military experts were called in to help, cordons put in place and some homes evacuated.

Staffordshire Police have got extra officers in the area to reassure the public.

In a statement released last night, Superintendent Victoria Downing from Staffordshire Police said:

ā€œWith support from our partners, we have the right expertise to ensure the safety of the public and make the property safe.

ā€œThis is an isolated incident and we do not believe there is any risk to the wider public.ā€
