An 86-year-old man has been arrested after a suspected hit-and-run in Stoke-on-Trent on Friday (12th December).

Officers say they received reports just after 8am that a woman had been hit by a car at the junction of South Drive of Carmountside Crematorium and Leek Road, in Milton.

The collision involved a pedestrian, 77-year-old Rosemary Boote, and what is described as a small blue/grey car.

The driver reportedly left the scene without stopping and failed to report the incident to the police.

Rosemary was taken to hospital but died from her injuries.

Her family continue to be supported by specially trained officers.

The 86-year-old driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless and or inconsiderate driving, failing to stop after a road accident and failing to report an accident.

He is currently on bail as investigations continue.
