Man released with no further action after death of two women in Staffordshire

Mother and daughter Karen and Joyce Wilshaw were found unresponsive at home on New Years Eve

A man who was arrested on suspicion of murder after two women were found dead in a house in Staffordshire's been released with no further action.

Post mortem examinations have taken place following the death of two women in Cheadle.

Karen Wilshaw, and her mother, Joyce Wilshaw, were both found unresponsive with significant injuries at a house on Park Lane, Cheadle, at approximately 3pm on 31 December 2023. Despite the efforts of paramedics and officers, both women were pronounced dead at approximately 3.50pm.

The provisional cause of death shows that 63-year-old, Karen, died as a result of multiple traumatic injuries, and 91-year-old, Joyce, died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head. Further tests are due to take place.

A 68-year-old man, who was arrested, then released under investigation, has now been released with no further action.

While we are investigating the exact circumstances of Karen and Joyce’s death, we are not seeking the arrest of any further suspect.

Karen and Joyce’s next of kin continues to be supported by specialist officers.
