A man has been jailed for nine years after he raped and punched a woman in Stoke-on-Trent.

Audrius Zukauskas, 55, of Shelton was sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday 28 November after he admitted three counts of the rape of a woman and one count of assaulting a person.

Zukauskas was jailed for nine years and will also serve an additional three years on extended license.

He met his victim on 16 August at a bus stop where he asked her if she wanted to attend his apartment. After she proceeded, Zukauskas raped and punched her in the face.

At 3.50am on 17 August it was reported by a 999 call that a woman was covered in blood from fighting with Zukauskas. Shortly after, he was taken away in handcuffs by police officers.

PC Eve Loach, from Staffordshire Police's rape and serious sexual offences unit, said:

“This was a particularly distressing attack on the victim who has shown immeasurable bravery in coming forward and supporting our investigation.

“We are determined to support survivors and to seek the toughest possible punishment in court for perpetrators of sexual and physical violence in Staffordshire.”
