A 34-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent has been jailed for 17 years after he was found guilty of multiple rapes in Staffordshire.

Mihai Savescu, of Chaplin Road, Longton, was sentenced on Thursday 7 October after being convicted of ten counts of rape following a trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

Savescu raped the female victim in hotel rooms and a number of local properties between October 2017 and November 2019.

Detective Constable, Diane Sproston from the force’s Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Unit, said: “Savescu was predatory and manipulative and took advantage of his victim’s trustful nature and kindness.

“I’d like to commend the victim who bravely came forward and reported these appalling crimes. She has shown incredible bravery and cooperation throughout the court process.

“I hope today’s sentence provides some form of closure and comfort knowing Savescu will be behind bars for a long time.”
