A man has been charged over the death of a highways worker on the M6 in Staffordshire on Saturday (26 February).

Police were attempting to stop an Audi vehicle, which officers believed was involved in an incident within the West Midlands area, shortly after 5am on Saturday on the M6 northbound between junctions 14 and 15, when the vehicle collided with a stationary traffic management vehicle.

A man in his 50s, the driver and sole occupant of the stationary vehicle, was pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later.

His family are being supported by specially-trained officers at this time.

Denis Balaz, 27, of no-fixed-address, was arrested and subsequently charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

He is due to appear before magistrates at North Staffordshire Justice Centre today (28 February).
