Man arrested after assaulting police officers in Stoke-on-Trent

At about 3.30pm yesterday (24 October), officers went to Ruxley Road in Bucknall after a man became aggressive.

A man has been arrested after two police officers were assaulted whilst responding to an incident in Stoke-on-Trent.

At about 3.30pm yesterday (24 October), officers went to Ruxley Road in Bucknall after a man became aggressive.

The man then assaulted two police officers by punching them multiple times. They were taken to hospital to be assessed after the ordeal and were later discharged.

A 29-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

He remains in custody today (25 October) and is being questioned about the incident.

Chief Inspector Scott McGrath, from the Stoke North local policing team, said: “Our officers are proud and committed to serving our communities. We will not tolerate any form of violence and we will take robust action against those who think it’s acceptable to do so.

“Officers up and down the county are faced with a number of challenges every day. Being subject to violence is not something we will accept.

“We will make sure the officers affected receive all of the appropriate support needed to help them continue to proudly serve the public.”
