A man and a child have been taken to hospital 'as a precaution' after a crash on the M6 in Staffordshire.

Emergency services were called to the southbound carriageway earlier today, between junction 15 for Stoke-on-Trent and junction 14 for Stafford North.

There were delays on that stretch of motorway for a number of hours as crews dealt with the incident.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the pair were taken to hospital as a precaution.

A spokesperson from the service said: "We were called at 1.38pm to reports of an RTC involving two vehicles on the southbound carriageway of the M6 by junction 15, Hanchurch, Stoke on Trent.

"Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene and assessed three patients; a woman and a child from one car and a man from the second car. The man and child have been conveyed to hospital for further checks as a precaution."
