Police launch Macclesfield murder investigation

Police were called to an address in Macclesfield following reports of a sudden death on Tuesday

Police investigating the death a man at an address in Macclesfield have launched a murder investigation.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said:

"At 10.35pm on Tuesday 19 August police were called to 1A Cross Street, Macclesfield following reports of a sudden death.

"On arrival officers sadly discovered the body of 41-year-old Stephen Rothwell. Next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers at this difficult time.

"A Home Office Post Mortem is taking place today (Wednesday 20 August).

"Enquiries have led to the arrest of a 41-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, both from the Macclesfield area. A third woman aged 42 has also been arrested. All currently remain in custody. "

DI Simon Mills, who is leading the investigation, said: "Officers are currently in the Macclesfield area carrying out further enquiries into the circumstances of the death.

“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of Cross Street between 8am on Monday 18 August and 11pm on Tuesday 19 August.

“The same goes for anyone who has CCTV, doorbell footage, or dashcam in relation to those times and locations. Information can be shared with us using https://mipp.police.uk/operation/07CH25D71-PO1.”

Information can also be passed to Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 2158625.
