Investigation continues after reports man fell into River Trent in Staffordshire

Staffordshire Police say nothing has been found, but they're now appealing for information

Police and emergency services are continuing to investigate after they received reports someone had fallen into a river in Staffordshire.

Emergency services were called to the River Trent in the Stapenhill Gardens area of Burton-on-Trent yesterday evening at around 5pm.

A member of the public contacted officers after reporting a man entering the water.

Specialist teams from the police and fire service carried out lengthy searches, including using an air helicopter, but didn't find anything.

In the latest update, Staffordshire Police said: "We are still trying to establish what exactly was seen in the River Trent earlier tonight.

"Officers have been conducting enquiries throughout this evening alongside specially trained teams and colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

"Nothing has been found at this moment. We understand that community concerns are high and we will continue working to explore all lines of inquiry."

Anyone who saw anything in the Stapenhill Gardens area at around 5pm yesterday is asked to contact police on 999.
