Hotel fire in Burslem being treated as arson

Firefighters rushed to the scene on Sunday evening

Police investigating a fire at a hotel in Stoke-on-Trent at the weekend are now treating the incident as deliberate.

Crews were called to the George Hotel on Swan Square, Burslem on Sunday evening.

There were no reported injuries.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said:

"Police were called to a business premises on Swan Square, Burslem, at around 6.20pm on Sunday (10 April) following reports of a fire.

"Officers attended as did Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

"On arrival, officers found a small fire in a room at the premises.

"The fire was extinguished by fire crews.

"All people were accounted for and no one was injured.

"The fire was deemed to be caused deliberately.

"Inquiries are ongoing.

A Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said:

"Firefighters were called to a business premises on Swan Square, Burslem, at around 5.50pm on Sunday (10 April) following reports of a fire.

"Crews from Hanley and Sandyford attended as did Staffordshire Police.

"On arrival, crews found a small fire in a room at the premises.

"Two positive pressure ventilators, two breathing apparatus and a dry powder extinguisher were used to extinguish the fire.

"All people were accounted for and no one was injured.

"The fire was deemed to be caused deliberately and the incident has been left with the police.

"Crews left the scene at around 8.20pm."
