Police response after reports of gunshots in an area Stoke

Police say patrols will be stepped up in the area today

Armed police have swooped in an area of Stoke-on-Trent after receiving reports of gunshots being heard in broad daylight.

Emergency services rushed to the scene near to Winchester Avenue in Bentilee yesterday afternoon, although officers say they didn't find anything.

A large cordon has been in place, and there is expected to be a large police presence in the area today.

In a statement, Staffordshire Police said: "We’re appealing for information following a report of gunshots in Stoke-on-Trent.

"We got a call at 3.35pm this afternoon (Tuesday 3 September) when someone reported hearing gunshots near Winchester Avenue in Bentilee.

"No-one has been injured."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident 420 of 3 September.
