Firefighters tackle blaze at Stoke-on-Trent flats

Brookwood Drive in Meir is currently closed as emergency services respond

Firefighters are tackling a fire at a block of flats in Stoke-on-Trent.

Emergency services were called to Brookwood Drive in Meir at around 4am this morning, with all residents of the two-storey building safely evacuated.

Police tell us a number of people are being treated for smoke inhalation.

In a statement, Staffordshire Police said: "We are currently at the scene of a fire at a block of flats in Stoke-on-Trent.

"We were called at 4am this morning (Wednesday 11 September) to reports of a fire at two-storey flats on Brookwood Drive, Meir.

"The flats have been evacuated and all residents are accounted for.

"A number of people have been taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation."

Brookwood Drive is currently closed to traffic as emergency services deal with the incident.
