A large cordon has been set up, and Trinity Street is closed to members of the public.

In a statement, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue said: "We got a call shortly just after 5.45am this morning (Tuesday 12 March) to Brockley Square in Hanley.

"Around 60 firefighters are currently working to contain the fire at the scene alongside our colleagues from Staffordshire Police. A large cordon has been set up to make sure those in the local area are safe.

"We’re advising the public to avoid the area where possible whilst we work to bring the incident to a safe and swift conclusion. If you live nearby, we recommend closing your windows and doors as a precaution due to heavy amounts of smoke coming from the building."
