The family of a man who died following a fatal collision in Stoke-on-Trent have paid tribute to him.

Daniel McLellan, aged 44, who lived locally, was driving a Dacia Sandero when he came into collision with a Vauxhall Crossland on Leek Road, Hanley, at about 7am on 9 December.

Daniel suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he sadly died.

In a tribute to him, Daniel’s family said:

“Our family has a huge gaping hole in it. Dan was such a kind man that loved his family without measure.

“He had a wicked sense of humour. Every day was filled with laughter and pranks. Now our home is silent.

“We would like to thank the passer-by that stopped to help and all the emergency services for all their hard work trying to save him.

“We thank everyone who has rallied around us at this difficult time and now ask that our privacy to mourn is respected.”

The driver of the Vauxhall, a man in his 30s, suffered leg injuries. He is in a stable condition in hospital.

Collision investigators are still keen to speak to any witnesses or those with any footage of what happened. We are carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what happened but we aren’t treating the collision as a criminal matter.
