Crowds return to Chester Racecourse for Roman Day

Chester Racecourse is set to welcome its first crowds in more than a year for Roman Day today.

Up to 4,000 people from across Cheshire and beyond are expected to attend the event, which has extra coronavirus safety measures in place.

It's well below the 25,000 capacity of the racecourse and visitors won't be able to use some indoor areas.

Hand sanitiser stations have been placed around the venue and guests will only be able to eat and drink outside.

Strict social distancing will also be in place during the event.

Roman Day celebrates the Roman history of the city of Chester. Seven races will take place throughout the afternoon, culminating in the The Chester Bet Handicap Stakes.
