Crews tackle large waste fire in Staffordshire

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service says more than 25 firefighters have been tackling a large waste fire in Stoke-on-Trent overnight.

Crews remain at the scene this morning (4 June) after the blaze started at around 23:45 on Tuesday evening (3 June).

The fire service said 5 appliances attended the blaze at a business premises on Chemical Lane in Longport.

A number of roads were closed and no injuries were reported.

Residents living nearby are still being reminded to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution.

In a statement the fire service said: "A small section of Chemical Lane remains closed to traffic.

"Our aerial ladder platform is still on scene dampening down.

"No injuries have been reported.

"Residents living within the area are advised to keep their doors and windows closed as a precaution.

"We are working with fire investigation colleagues to determine the cause and crews are working hard to bring the incident to a safe conclusion."
