A man from Cheadle has been sentenced to 30 years in prison following the attempted murder of two people.

Anthony Lovatt, aged 68, was given the sentence after a jury found him guilty on one count of attempted murder following the stabbing on November 8th, 2024.

The suspect had been wielding a knife in each hand when he turned up at the door of his victims after having followed them home from a pub.

During the attack, Lovatt went on to stab one victim, a man, in the neck three times, as well as the chest and the abdomen.

He also then went on to stab the woman, who was later revealed to be his ex-partner, in the chest, and held the knife against her throat.

The woman was eventually able to push her assailant away, prompting him to flee while holding both knives in his hands.

Staffordshire Police were alerted shortly after the attack, and were able to arrest him at a house in the area a short time later.

Lovatt would eventually tell investigators where he had hidden the knives, which were later found in an alleyway.

The man who was attacked during the incident had to be taken to hospital for his injuries, but was able to recover and was discharged a short time later.

Being sentenced at Stafford Crown Court on Friday (July 11th), Lovatt was also given sentences after pleading guilty to two counts of wounding with intent and two counts of possessing a knife in a public place.

Speaking on the ruling, Eve Loach from Staffordshire Police, said the force was happy to bring about the right verdict for the attack.

"I’m pleased that we’ve been able to deliver this outcome for both victims who are still continuing to live with the physical and emotional damage that Lovatt caused to them both in this abhorrent attack," Loach said.

“Violent offenders and domestic abusers are being targeted every single day in Staffordshire. We’re working around the clock to safeguard those at risk and to act robustly against those responsible.”
