£100K cash seized and multiple arrests made by Staffordshire Police
The specialist unit say they work around the clock to disrupt offenders using the road network
Staffordshire Police’s Road Crime Team (RCT) has seized £100,000 in cash and made several arrests over the past week as part of ongoing efforts to tackle crime and keep the county’s roads safe.
The specialist unit say they work around the clock to disrupt offenders using the road network for criminal activity, from transporting drugs and stolen vehicles to exploiting vulnerable people.
On Monday 3 November, officers responded to reports of a vehicle being driven erratically on the M6 in Stafford.
When the car was stopped and searched, officers discovered £100,000 in cash.
A 35-year-old woman from London was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug of Class A (cocaine) and acquiring, using, or possessing criminal property.
She has been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.
Later in the week, on Friday (7 November), the team responded to reports of four pedestrians near the M6 at Tittensor.
A 23-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of remaining in the UK beyond his permitted time.
A 26-year-old man and two teenagers, also of no fixed address, were arrested on suspicion of knowingly entering the UK without leave.
All four individuals have been referred to Immigration Enforcement.
On Saturday (8 November), RCT officers used tactical manoeuvres to stop a vehicle travelling on the A500 at Sideway in Stoke-on-Trent.
A man inside the vehicle was arrested and later transferred to another police force after it was confirmed he was wanted for rape and common assault.
Chief Inspector Scott McGrath, who leads the RCT, praised the team’s continued success: “Every week our sights are firmly focused on the safety of our roads and taking the fight to criminals who think it’s acceptable to use them for criminality, including the distribution of drugs and criminal assets and exploiting vulnerable people.”
