Body of missing Staffordshire diver recovered off Cornwall coast

A major search operation was launched to try and find him

The body off a missing diver from Staffordshire has been recovered off the coast of Cornwall and brought to shore.

The man didn't resurface following a dive in the sea off Falmouth on the 17th June.

A multi-agency rescue operation was launched in the Pendennis Point area, involving the coastguard, RNLI and helicopters.

Mayday relays were broadcast throughout the night and police dive teams were called in the next day to carry out searches as part of the investigation.

Officers have now confirmed that the body of a 39-year-old man from Staffordshire has been recovered but formal identification has not yet taken place.

"The body of a diver who failed to resurface following a dive in the sea off Falmouth has been recovered and brought to shore.

"The family of the 39-year-old man, from Staffordshire, have been informed, but formal identification is yet to take place.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner."
