Warning following big rise in motorbike thefts in Staffordshire
The problem is said to be particularly bad in Stoke-on-Trent
Staffordshire Police is urging the public to remain vigilant with their belongings and take the necessary steps to protect their motorbikes from thieves.
There has been a recent spike in offences - in August (2021), there were 38 reported thefts, with 33 in September and 21 so far in October (as of 11/10). These offences are force wide, but hotspots such as Stoke South and North have been identified.
Offences are occurring at all times of the day and sporadically on every day of the week, but predominately occur overnight between the hours of 10pm-4am.
Detective Chief Inspector John Miles said: "Owners of motorbikes must take all of the necessary steps that they can to avoid thefts.
"If you are able, put your bike in a locked garage or outbuilding and secure it to a ground anchor or other fixed point. Please secure your bike as best as possible with a high quality chain and lock. When parking your bike away from home, try to leave it in a well-lit area, ideally covered by CCTV.”
