Emergency services were called to a high school in Knypersley, with five people taken to hospital after a chemical exposure incident.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to Conway Road at 10.15am and responded with two paramedic officers, an ambulance, and HART paramedics.

On arrival, crews found six people requiring medical assessment.

Among those affected were a man, a woman, and three teenagers who were treated at the scene before being taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital for precautionary checks.

A sixth person was discharged at the scene without needing further treatment.

Fire crews attended alongside police and the paramedics, isolating the chemical and ventilating the affected building.

Biddulph High School released a statement explaining that the incident was linked to science equipment:

“Earlier today, an issue was identified with a piece of science equipment, following our normal processes and procedures, emergency services attended. They have confirmed the site is safe for normal operations to continue.

“We are grateful for the swift and professional response of our staff and students and the support provided by the emergency services. The wellbeing and safety of our students and staff remain our highest priority.”
