Baton relay heads through Staffordshire

It's been passing through Newcastle and Kidsgrove

The baton arrived at Keele University at 10.30am, where a series of school activities were taking place. Then it was on to the Belong specialist care village in Newcastle town centre and a special performance paying homage to Philip Astley, creator of the modern circus.

On to a narrowboat next, just after 12pm, at Harecastle tunnel, Kidsgrove and to more activities at Newchapel Pump Track, before the relay heads to the Potteries.

The route around Stoke-on-Trent included a trip into history at the World of Wedgwood from 1.30pm and the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery alongside air cadets and wartime singing.

Public events for the baton at Hanley Park have had to be cancelled because of the hot weather guidance.

On Tuesday afternoon, the relay is planned to return to Stafford, Stone, Rudyard Lake at Leek and then to a final call at Alton Towers to finish its evening in the Moorlands.
