Arrest after fire at Stoke supermarket

Staffordshire Police say they have made an arrest after a fire started inside a shop in Stoke-on-Trent.

Officers have been at the scene on Moorland Road, Burslem, supporting colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service since getting the first call shortly before 1pm on Thursday 23 May.

They say they are continuing to help with the cordon and are asking people to avoid the area where possible whilst emergency services work to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

A 53-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, has been arrested on suspicion of arson.

He will be questioned in custody.

A fire investigation will take place to establish the cause as soon as it’s safe to do so.
