Staffordshire Police's appeal continues after a man died on a canal boat earlier this week.

The force say they identified a man on a canal boat at Pendeford Mill Lane in Bilbrook on Friday morning (February 24) following a fire on-board.

They confirm they were called out at 02:43 that morning, with officers joined by the Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, who extinguished the blaze.

Shortly before 5am, the body of a man was discovered - along with the body of a dog.

Fire crews have since left the scene but an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing with partners from West Midlands Fire Service, while Highways and the Canal and River Trust are also providing support into the investigations.

Road closures were put in place in the Pendeford and Bilbrook areas on Friday.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained as work continues to identify the man.
