Yorkshire mums in Atlantic adventure

Published 21st Dec 2015

A group of four mums from Yorkshire have set off on a mission to make history. France Davies, Helen Butters, Niki Doeg and Janette Benaddi, all in their forties and fifties, are hoping to become the oldest women to ever row cross the Atlantic Ocean. They're taking part in the Talisker Atlantic Challenge - it'll take them around eight weeks and they'll have to battle through heatwaves, winds and storms. They only took up rowing four years ago as a hobby and are now hoping the challenge will help raise £150,000 for charity. After bad weather delayed their original start time by almost a week, they finally waved goodbye to dry land as they set off on their 3,000 mile journey from the Canary Island of La Gomera to Antigua, in the Caribbean.

The quartet, known as Yorkshire Rows, are one of 26 teams from around the world who are taking on the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.
