Yorkshire have signed Australian all-rounder Will Sutherland on an overseas deal for next season.

The 25-year-old, who won two ODI caps last year, will be available for the duration of the Vitality Blast group campaign as well as two rounds of the Rothesay County Championship.

Sutherland, who captained Melbourne Renegades in the recent Big Bash League, previously signed for Yorkshire head coach Anthony McGrath during the latter's time in charge of Essex but was forced to withdraw through injury.

McGrath is excited about the arrival and feels the pull of Ashes associations to Headingley were a factor in closing the deal.

"It didn't take a lot of selling. Headingley is special, particularly for an Aussie with all the history here," he told the PA news agency.

"They want to come and play at places like this. When you can say 'come and play at Headingley', that's a good start to the conversation.

"Will is an all-round cricketer. He's got leadership, there's cricket in his blood and I know from working at the Big Bash that he's a great competitor.

"He bats, he bowls, he can play traditionally or be really destructive. With the ball he can open the bowling, play a holding role or operate at the death.

"He's a modern-day cricketer who can do absolutely anything. He's also an unbelievable athlete and fielder, a real three-dimensional player."

Sutherland, who will likely enter the draft for the Hundred following his time with the White Rose, added: "Yorkshire are a club with big ambitions and I want to do all I can to contribute to a successful year."
