Events and training in life-saving skills have been taking place at 172 secondary schools across Yorkshire today.

The ambulance service covering all three counties has taught young people how to do CPR on 'Restart A Heart Day'.

One of the sessions has been taking place at Riverside Special School in Goole.

Liz Herevon from Sheffield Children's Hospital has been helping run it, she said:

"There's a couple of different training videos that are used, and we use a shorter video, and we've got a video with some Makaton signing in it so that the children can recognise those signs, and it helps them to remember a little bit more about what to do.

"We just keep it as simple as we can. It's a straightforward skill that absolutely anybody can learn, and it makes a difference.

"I see in my job patients coming in cardiac arrest, and we know that if they've had good CPR by somebody at the scene, the earlier they have that, the better it is and the better outcome we can have."
