An inquest has opened today into the death of a man following a home explosion in Worksop.

53 year old David Howard was pronounced dead on John Street on April 12, after a blast ripped through a home and devastated a residential street.

A major incident was declared, with two neighbouring properties also partially collapsing.

20 cars were also damaged by debris.

Nottingham Coroners Court heard today that the proposed cause of David's death was positional asphyxia, meaning he suffocated under the rubble of the house.

The inquest was adjourned as an investigation continues into the cause of the blast.

A 43-year-old man was arrested and questioned on suspicion of murder at the time of the explosion.

He has since been released with no further action after the police investigation found no evidence of any third-party involvement in Mr Howard’s death.

Demolition work has since cleared the scene of the explosion.
