Wind is picking up in South Yorkshire with a yellow warning in place, as some places across the region have seen flooding overnight.

Meadowhall put their flood defences up yesterday afternoon as a precaution, there has been some slight flooding there outside, staff are currently cleaning up.

Well elsewhere Rotherham Station is completely flooded on the line, with staff there saying it will be closed until at the very least Tuesday.

Train operator Northern issued a "do not travel" alert to passengers due to the impact of storms.

There is severe disruption on many of its routes, including between Sheffield and Manchester, Scarborough and Hull, York and Sheffield, Bradford and Leeds, Chester and Manchester, and Carlisle and Newcastle.

The River Don burst its banks in the Sprotbrough area of Doncaster on Sunday night, and police have warned people to stay away from dangerous "fast flowing" water.

South Yorkshire Police said:

"We ask people to remain away from the area of Sprotbrough Falls and Sprotbrough Lock in Doncaster, after the River Don burst its banks in this location earlier this evening.

"Many of the footpaths in this area are presently underwater.

"The water is fast flowing and poses a risk to people attempting to wade through it.

"Members of the public are being asked to remain away from the area at this time for their own safety. Thank you."

Well elsewhere and roads have been closed across the region, with Sheffield City Council working to get things reopened.
