Two men have been charged after a stabbing in Meadowhall.

Police were called just before 6.30pm on Tuesday evening following reports of an altercation.

Two men were stabbed and taken to hospital, one of the men has been discharged but another remains there.

A statement from South Yorkshire Police said:

"Two men have been charged following a stabbing in Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield earlier this week.

"At 6.23pm on Tuesday (2 January) we were called to Meadowhall Shopping Centre following reports of an altercation between a group of men, who were known to each other. Two men were stabbed during the incident and taken to hospital.

"One of the men, aged 19, suffered a minor injury and has been discharged. The other man, also aged 19, suffered a serious injury and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

"Mohammed Yusoof, 20, of Barnsley Road in Sheffield has been charged with two counts of Section 18 wounding, one count of affray and one count of possessing a bladed article in a public place. He has been remanded in custody and will appear before Sheffield Magistrates' Court today (4 January).

"Ayaz Luiz, 24, also of Barnsley Road in Sheffield, has been charged with affray. He has been bailed to appear at Sheffield Magistrates' Court tomorrow (5 January).

"Officers from the dedicated Meadowhall policing team are continuing to carry out additional patrols in the centre alongside other force resources and shopping centre security staff.

"If you have any information which may assist officers with their investigation, please report it to us by calling 101 and quoting incident number 728 of 2 January 2024."
