Two men arrested following fatal car crash which killed two 17 year olds in Rotherham

It comes after a car hit a tree on Todwick Road on Saturday

Police investigating a fatal car crash in Rotherham on over the weekend have arrested two men in connection with what happened.

The collision happened at 2:40am on Todwick Road, when a silver Toyota Corolla travelling away from Dinnington towards Todwick left the road and struck a tree.

Both the driver, a 17-year-old girl, and her passenger, a 17-year-old boy, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Their families are being supported by officers, while a further male passenger remains in a life-threatening condition.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and a 19-year-old man on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

Sergeant John Taylor of South Yorkshire Police said:

"This is a tragic collision in which two young people have lost their lives with a further person in a critical condition, and we are committed to finding answers for their families," Taylor said.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have footage of the car prior to the collision."
