Tributes are being paid to Councillor Isobel Bowler who's died at the age of 52 following a battle with cancer.

She leaves behind a teenage daughter, Mary, and husband Richard.

Councillor Julie Dore, Leader of Sheffield City Council, said: "Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this horribly sad time.

“Today we are flying the Town Hall flag at half-mast and we will continue to do so until Isobel’s funeral. There is a book of condolences in the Town Hall for all that would like to come and leave a tribute.

“Isobel was a charismatic and popular councillor, who was devoted to her job as a ward member for Mosborough and during her time as a Cabinet Member. She was no-nonsense, practical and always backed up her words with action.

“Isobel, an Oxford University graduate, lived in Fulwood and played an active part in the Sheffield community, being a governor at Westways School in Crookes.

"Following a long career in the public sector, she became councillor for Mosborough ward in 2010 and was named Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure two years later, a role that reflected her huge appetite for life.

“Isobel will be very much missed by everyone here at Sheffield City Council.”
